Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) Engagement Plan Briefing
Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
Staff will present a plan for public engagement related to Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) and the development of the City’s policy on ADUs, which will be established through future ordinance amendments. The briefing will highlight the goals of the ADU engagement process, and the key milestones and deadlines towards achieving those goals.
Discussion:
Staff will share recent population and migration trends; the economic, environmental and social benefits of ADUs; guiding principles; potential stakeholder group composition; proposed timeline; and next steps.
Impact:
The City's ADU policy resulting from this engagement will provide another housing option for residents, thus increasing housing opportunities throughout the City of Hampton. The ADU policy could impact the economic vitality of the city's homeowners, as well as population and density trends as stated in the Consolidated Plan for Housing and Community Development, Strategic Plan and area Master Plans.
