Model Block Initiative Briefing
Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
Since 2022, the Community Development Department has been working with the Hampton Redevelopment & Housing Authority (HRHA), Work Program Architects (WPA), Habitat for Humanity Peninsula Greater Williamsburg (Habitat) to launch and implement housing reinvestment approaches under the Model Block initiative. The Model Block initiative is intended to use short-term and high impact investment into "post-World War II" housing community to demonstrate the opportunity for reinvestment. The briefing will provide an update on the activities and progress made in the acquisition, design, and community engagement related to the Model Block initiative in Fordham and Old North Hampton neighborhoods. CDD staff and community partners will provide an overview of the initiative, the current Fordham renovation designs, and Habitat's housing reinvestment grant program known as "Rock the Block."
