Resolution Approving and Authorizing the Mayor to Execute Amended Employment Contracts for the City Manager, City Attorney, and City Clerk

 

Purpose

PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:

To ratify the existing employment contracts and enter into amended contracts with the City Manager, City Attorney, and City Clerk.

Approval and Ratification of Appointee Employment Contracts

 

Body

                     WHEREAS, pursuant to sections 3.07, 4.01, and 5.01 of the Hampton City Charter, the City Manager, City Attorney, and City Clerk are directly appointed by the City Council and serve at the pleasure of the City Council; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the City Council previously entered into employment agreements with Mary B. Bunting (the "City Manager"), Cheran C. Ivery (the "City Attorney"); and Katherine Glass (the "City Clerk"); and

 

                     WHEREAS, said employment contracts involve annual performance reviews of the City Manager, City Attorney, and City Clerk by the City Council, which were recently completed; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the City Council desires to ratify the existing employment contracts and enter into amended contracts with the City Manager, City Attorney, and City Clerk, in order to renew and amend the terms and conditions under which they are employed by the Council.

 

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Hampton, Virginia as follows:

 

                     1.                     That the actions taken by the Mayor to execute the current employment contracts with the City Manager, City Attorney, and City Clerk, are hereby ratified and approved by the City Council with the same effect as if the City Council had authorized such actions in advance.

 

                     2.                     That the Mayor is authorized to execute new or amended employment contracts for the City Manager, City Attorney, and City Clerk, with all such terms as approved by the City Council, to execute any other related documents, and to perform other such acts as may be necessary and appropriate pursuant to this resolution, including those not specifically recited.
