Pass resolution in recognition of Mayor Donnie R. Tuck
Body
WHEREAS, Donnie R. Tuck is a native of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and a graduate of Chapel Hill Senior High School;
WHEREAS, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Policy Studies from Duke University and his Master of Arts degree in Public Administration from Old Dominion University;
WHEREAS, he has had an impressive career in broadcasting, sports information and athletic public relations (Howard University and Duke University), contract technical writing and local government;
WHEREAS, during his career, he also held the positions of Division Manager for the City of Norfolk’s Public Works Department and Athletic Public Relations Director for the Washington Redskins, now known as the Commanders;
WHEREAS, Tuck was elected to serve on the Hampton City Council beginning July 1, 2010, and was re-elected for a second term which began on July 1, 2014;
WHEREAS, he was elected to serve his first term as Hampton’s Mayor which began on July 1, 2016, and was re-elected for a second term which began on July 1, 2020. Mayor Tuck will serve as Hampton’s Mayor until his second term expires on December 31, 2024;
WHEREAS, during his tenure on Council, Mayor Tuck worked diligently to bring new businesses to Hampton, protect the environment, support our youth and care for the employees and citizens of Hampton. He could often be found participating at ribbon cuttings, ground breakings, birthday celebrations and school events. No issue was too small or too challenging for him to take interest, seek resolution and offer support;
WHEREAS, Mayor Tuck has served the citizens of Hampton through his participation on a number of boards, commissions and committees. Some of them include Hampton Roads Air Quality Control, Hampton Roads Planning District Commission, Hampton Roads Regional Jail Authority, Hampton Roads Transportation Accountability Commission, Hampton Transportation Advisory Committee, Town and Gown Committee, and the Virginia Municipal League’s Human Development and Education Committee;
WHEREAS, some of his memberships and affiliations include Big Brothers, the Office of Human Affairs, Hampton Roads Mayors and Chairs, Habitat for Humanity, Hampton Roads Military and Federal Facilities Alliance; Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization, Peninsula Mayors and Chairs and the Virginia Living Museum;
WHEREAS, he is married to Robie Tuck and has a daughter, Elizabeth Tuck; and
WHEREAS, in his spare time, Mayor Tuck enjoys spending quality time with family and friends, attending church, reading, cooking and eating cake.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Hampton, Virginia, that Mayor Donnie R. Tuck, be and hereby is, recognized and commended for his service to the Hampton City Council and the citizens of the City of Hampton.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the minutes of the December 11, 2024, City Council meeting of the City of Hampton, Virginia, and that an appropriate copy be signed by the Vice Mayor, attested by the Clerk and presented to Mayor Donnie R. Tuck.
