Pass resolution in recognition of Councilman Chris Bowman
Body
WHEREAS, Chris Bowman is a product of Hampton City Schools and is a graduate of Kecoughtan High School;
WHEREAS, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Old Dominion University and his Master’s degree in Public Administration from Golden Gate University;
WHEREAS, he is a graduate of the College of Business Management Institute at the University of Kentucky, obtained his Post Graduate Certificate in Public Professional Management from Old Dominion University, and is P.H.R. certified by the Society of Human Resource Management;
WHEREAS, during his career, he served in Department Director-level positions at Eastern State Hospital and Virginia Peninsula Community College (formerly Thomas Nelson Community College). He also worked as a Virginia-licensed Nursing Home Administrator and a Supreme Court of Virginia Certified Mediator;
WHEREAS, in 2018, he received the Excellence in Service Award from Hampton’s Citizens Unity Commission;
WHEREAS, Councilman Bowman was elected to the Hampton City Council in 2020, serving from July 1, 2020, until his term expires on December 31, 2024;
WHEREAS, during his tenure on Council, he became known for his passion for helping others and ensuring that Hampton remained safe for all citizens. He could often be found serving Hampton’s homeless population at the Nights Welcome Program, distributing food at the Peninsula Food Bank and supporting the Hampton Police Division in its work to reduce crime;
WHEREAS, Councilman Bowman served the citizens of Hampton through his participation on a number of boards, commissions and committees including the Ad Hoc Leadership Citizen Engagement Advisory Review Commission, Hampton Clean City Commission, Hampton Democratic Party Committee, Hampton Federal Area Development Authority, Hampton Foster Grand Parents Advisory Board, Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, Hampton Waterways Committee, Y.H. Thomas Advisory Board and the Virginia Municipal League General Laws Committee;
WHEREAS, his memberships and affiliations include, but are not limited to, the Aberdeen Gardens Civic and Historic Association, Buckroe Improvement League, DO Gooders of Hampton Roads, Downtown Hampton Kiwanis Club, FOP Lodge #26, Hampton TRIAD, NAACP (Hampton Branch), Phillips Athletic Association, Sierra Club, Virginia Association on Aging and 200+ Men Inc.;
WHEREAS, he is a graduate, member, or both, of the Hampton Citizens Police Academy, Hampton Codes Academy, Hampton Diversity College, Hampton Fire Academy and Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute; and
WHEREAS, Councilman Bowman enjoys spending quality time with family and friends, enjoying good food and encouraging others to be positive in their everyday lives.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Hampton, Virginia, that Councilman Chris Bowman, be and hereby is, recognized and commended for his service to the Hampton City Council and the citizens of the City of Hampton.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the minutes of the December 11, 2024, City Council meeting of the City of Hampton, Virginia, and that an appropriate copy be signed by the Mayor, attested by the Clerk and presented to Councilman Chris Bowman.
