Pass resolution in recognition of Councilman W. H. "Billy" Hobbs, Jr.
Body
WHEREAS, W.H. “Billy” Hobbs, Jr., is a native of Newport News, Virginia, and a longtime resident of the City of Hampton;
WHEREAS, he graduated from Newport News High School and received credentials from the University of Automotive Management;
WHEREAS, he has mastered all phases of managing an automotive dealership;
WHEREAS, he is the President and Managing Partner of the Peninsula Auto Auction, former Vice President and General Manager of Hampton Chevrolet, former General Sales Manager of Hutchens Chevrolet and former Service Manager of Pearson Toyota;
WHEREAS, Councilman Hobbs was elected to the Hampton City Council in 2012 and has served for three terms, beginning July 1, 2012, and ending December 31, 2024;
WHEREAS, during his tenure on Council, he became known for standing by his tough decisions and for riding with Hampton’s police officers and firefighters to learn about the work they do and the risks they take for our community;
WHEREAS, Councilman Hobbs served the citizens of Hampton through his participation on boards, commissions and committees including the Hampton Board of Zoning Appeals, Hampton Roads Community Action Program, Hampton Tourism Advisory Committee, Old Point National Bank Hampton Regional Board, Hampton Town and Gown and the Virginia Municipal League’s Community & Economic Development Committee;
WHEREAS, some of his memberships and affiliations include the Coliseum Central Business Improvement District, Downtown Hampton Exchange Club, Hampton BMX, Hampton City Schools Parent Involvement Team, National Aeronautics Support Team, Northampton Little League, Office of Human Affairs, Peninsula Public Sports Facility Authority and the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce;
WHEREAS, Councilman Hobbs is married to Debbie Hobbs and has a son, Nicholas Hobbs, and a daughter, Kylah Hobbs; and
WHEREAS, in his spare time, he enjoys spending quality time with family and friends, golfing, working on cars and spreading joy to others through his generosity, storytelling and wonderful sense of humor.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Hampton, Virginia, that Councilman W. H. “Billy” Hobbs, Jr., be and hereby is, recognized and commended for his service to the Hampton City Council and the citizens of the City of Hampton.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the minutes of the December 11, 2024, City Council meeting of the City of Hampton, Virginia, and that an appropriate copy be signed by the Mayor, attested by the Clerk and presented to Councilman W. H. “Billy” Hobbs, Jr.
