Resolution Approving the City of Hampton, Virginia's Participation in and Appropriation of the 2017 Rescue Squad Assistance Fund (RSAF)-Special Initiative Grant through the Office of Emergency Medical Services Grant Program in the amount of $3,626.67

Purpose
The Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) announced that Hampton Division of Fire & Rescue was awarded an FY17 RSAF-Special Initiative Grant for an Emergency Medical Technician Intermediate (EMT-I) class by the Rescue Squad Assistance Fund (RSAF) Grant in the amount of $3,626.67 with a zero percent cost match of non-Federal funds. This grant has a performance period of May 1, 2017 through April 30, 2018.
Discussion:
The Financial Assistance for Emergency Medical Services Grants Program, known as the Rescue Squad Assistance Fund (RSAF) Grant Program is a multi-million dollar grant program for Virginia non-profit EMS agencies and organizations. Items eligible for funding include EMS equipment and vehicles, computers, EMS management programs, courses/classes and projects benefiting the recruitment and retention of EMS members.
Impact:
This initiative supports the Community Plan 2011 Update Public Safety Goal 4 “Hampton public safety personnel will receive on-going comprehensive training in best practices” by providing Emergency Medical Technician training to new members.

WHEREAS, the Office of Emergency Medical Services has awarded a 2017 Rescue Squad Assistance Fund-Special Initiative Grant to the City of Hampton, Virginia in the amount of $3,626.67 with no local match;

WHEREAS, the grant award covers the period of May 1, 2017 through April 30, 2018; and

WHEREAS, the grant funds will cover the cost of one Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate class.
