Resolution to Accept and Appropriate a Contribution of Money from Hampton City Schools in the Amount of $10,000 to Further Youth Violence Prevention Efforts in the City of Hampton                     

 

Purpose

PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:

Hampton City Schools provides an annual contribution, in the amount of $10,000, to the Youth Violence Prevention Unit who works closely with students from Hampton City Schools, especially with the Summer Youth Employment Program.

 

Discussion:

Hampton City Schools provided the funds with the sole stipulation that it be used by the Youth Violence Prevention Unit to motivate and educate young people so that youth violence does not occur. The FY17 contribution is being used to support public safety partnerships, community outreach programs, assessments, education and supplies. All of these initiatives work to address youth violence in the City of Hampton and benefit Hampton City School students.

 

Impact:

The contribution will be used as follows: Public Safety Partnerships ($1,000); Community Outreach, Education, Programs, Assessment ($8,000); and supplies ($1,000).

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Hampton, Virginia accepts and appropriates the fiscal year 2017 contribution of money from Hampton City Schools in the amount of $10,000 to be used by the Youth Violence Prevention Unit to further youth violence prevention efforts in the City of Hampton, Virginia.
