Resolution Approving the Honorary Recognition of Coach Mike Smith on a Sign Installed on the Darling Memorial Stadium Scoreboard
Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
The City leases Darling Memorial Stadium from the Trustees of the Darling Memorial Stadium. Under the terms of the lease, the City is solely responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Stadium and has the right to use the Stadium for any and all activities conducted by the School Board, school system, or any individual City public schools; by the City or any of its departments; or under the sponsorship of the City.
Coach Mike Smith has been involved with Hampton High School football for decades. He is the Nation's 3rd Winningest High School Football Coach and has won 12 Virginia High School League (VHSL) State Championships.
The Peninsula Former Athletes II LLC installed a sign on the scoreboard at Darling Stadium recognizing Coach Mike Smith's achievements. This installation was done without cost to the City.
