Motion to accept the donation of equipment valued at approximately $17,394.00 from Canon Virginia, Inc to the City for use by the Hampton Fire Division.
Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
Canon Virginia, Inc offers a donation program through which a limited number of select Canon products are loaned or donated for use. The Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue applied for camera donations for our fire investigators and Canon approved the request. The department received a donation of six (6) Canon 6D Mark II DSLR cameras and six (6) Canon 16-35 mm, F2.8 lenses.
The Division's Community Risk Reduction Branch is responsible for determining the origin and cause of fires, explosions, bombings, and environmental crimes. The investigators are currently using point and shoot cameras which are effective for inspections, but not for fire investigations that are likely to be presented in court. These investigations are often times conducted in poor light conditions and a DSLR camera would greatly improve the quality of the photos.
Impact:
The cost of this equipment if purchased by the City would be approximately $17,394.00.
