Title

Appointment of Interim City Council Member

Purpose

Councilmember Christine (“Chris”) O. Snead was duly elected to the City Council of the City of Hampton, Virginia, with a four-year term beginning on July 1, 2020 and continuing until December 31, 2024. Due to her election to the office of Treasurer with a term beginning January 1, 2022, Councilmember Snead resigned her City Council seat on December 31, 2021.

At the City Council meeting on December 8, 2021, Mayor Tuck announced that it was the unanimous decision of the remaining members of City Council that they should appoint Michelle T. Ferebee to an interim term on the City Council until such time as the Hampton Circuit Court can set the date for a special election for the City Council seat vacated by Chris Snead.  At that time, it was announced that Council intended to take action to fill the vacancy on January 12, 2022.  The City Attorney has filed the appropriate petition with the Hampton Circuit Court.
