Resilient Hampton Next Steps

Purpose

PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:

In December, Waggonner and Ball presented the Phase I report of the Resilient Hampton iniative. Phase I included a city-wide, high-level assessment of existing conditions, concerns and potential solutions; analysis of the best available data related to sea level rise and climate change; guiding principles, values, and goals for a resilient Hampton based on analysis of community workshops and outreach; the current legal framework around implementation of resilience projects and policies; a preliminary evaluation tool for assisting leaders in making decisions about investments based on resiliency; and a set of next steps, including the need to select a geographic area for the first resiliency pilot project (which will take up the bulk of Phase II). Each of these items in discussed in greater detail in the attached Phase I report.

Staff are now looking towards Phase II of Resilient Hampton. A list of proposed next steps are provided in the Phase I report and the attached powerpoint presentation. With Council direction, staff will begin undertaking these tasks, including the selection of a pilot project area to continue work with consultants Waggonner and Ball. Council will be kept informed of progress on all aspects of the initiative.

Recommendation:

Rec
