Resolution to Amend the Fiscal Year 2024 Council Approved Budget to Accept and Appropriate the 2023 Urban Area Security Initiative Grant Awarded through the Virginia Department of Emergency Management for the Peninsula Family Assistance Center Planning, Training and Exercises
Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
The Urban Area Security Initiative (“UASI”) Grant assists state, local, tribal, and territorial efforts to build, sustain, and deliver the capabilities necessary to prevent, prepare for, protect against, and respond to acts of terrorism. The City of Hampton (the “City”) has been awarded, as fiduciary, a 2023 UASI Grant awarded through the Virginia Department of Emergency Management for Peninsula Family Assistance Center Planning, Training and Exercises.
Discussion:
This grant is awarded to the City of Hampton as the fiduciary agent for joint preparedness program with the City of Newport News, City of Poquoson, City of Williamsburg, York County and James City County. Funding will go to support Phase II of the region's Family Reunification Center(s)/Family Assistance Center(s) (FRC/FAC) planning, training and exercises for our employees and communities. Currently there are no other funding sources for this support of the Office of Emergency Management other than additional City funds.
Impact:
The City has been awarded $110,000.00 in funding from the 2023 Urban Area Security Initiative (“UASI”) Grant with no local match required. This grant allows the Office of Emergency Management and the Peninsula jurisdictions to continue to provide training and support for emergency preparedness programs to better prepare and build resiliency in the City and the region for future threats.
