Title
Continued Discussion of City of Hampton, Virginia's 2021 General Assembly Priorities
Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
On October 14, 2020, Two Capitols Consulting, the City's Virginia General Assembly legislative liaison, facilitated a discussion and sought direction on the Council's legislative priorities for the upcoming 2021 General Assembly session. This is Council's opportunity to discuss any changes or additions they wish made to the proposed legislative priorities package in advance of a vote on this item during the legislative session on November 12, 2020.
Discussion:
The City annually prepares and submits to Virginia’s General Assembly a package setting forth requests for new laws, revisions to laws, appropriations, and other similar matters for which legislative action is necessary. The City’s requests reflect cumulative concerns of the City Council, the City Manager, and the citizens of the City. The package includes several City-specific requests, as well as multiple policy statements regarding regional and statewide matters. Once the final legislative package is approved by City Council, Two Capitols Consulting, will solicit patrons for each of the City specific requests and will monitor the progress of the City’s requests, as well as all other matters considered by the General Assembly that may affect the City.
Impact:
See Discussion above.
