Title
Briefing on Proposed Zoning Ordinance Amendments for Accessory Dwelling Units
Purpose
Background Statement:
The purpose of this briefing is to provide a mid-point check-in on the proposed zoning ordinance amendments for Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs). We will share progress to date, highlight public engagement outcomes, and present initial findings that are shaping a draft policy. This is also an opportunity to preview potential ordinance changes that would define and permit ADUs in Hampton, ensuring they align with community priorities and city goals.
Phase One of the ADU engagement process included broad public outreach, including a community survey and a steering group representing diverse perspectives. Key themes include strong interest in ADUs for family use, housing affordability, and homeowner flexibility. Additional goals emphasize working within the parameters of the City’s existing development standards and maintaining consistency with surrounding localities. We are seeking City Council and public feedback to help refine these recommendations and guide the next steps toward an informed draft zoning ordinance language.
