Title

Update on the Stakeholder Group to be Convened to Discuss the Proposed Ordinance to Amend and Reenact the City Code of the City of Hampton, Virginia by Amending Chapter 24, Offenses - Miscellaneous, Article I, In General, Section 24-50, to Prohibit Camping and Storage on Public Property

Purpose

PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:

On May 14, 2025, City Council was briefed on a proposed ordinance amendment addressing camping and storage on public property. The proposed amendment was presented for formal consideration on June 11, 2025. At that time, Council elected to defer action in order to convene a stakeholder group to review and provide input on the proposal.

Staff has been working to identify members of the stakeholder group. The City Manager will update Council on the final composition of the group and outline the proposed meeting process.

The matter was initially deferred to September 24, 2025; however, Council intends to defer consideration once more to allow the stakeholder group sufficient time to complete its review and recommendations.
