Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
The State Homeland Security Program ("SHSP") Grant assists state, local, tribal, and territorial efforts to build, sustain, and deliver the capabilities necessary to prevent, prepare for, protect against, and respond to acts of terrorism. The City of Hampton (the “City”) has been awarded, as fiduciary, a 2021 SHSP Grant awarded through the Virginia Department of Emergency Management for CERT Program Enhancement Regional Citizen Corps Project Hampton and Poquoson for joint emergency preparedness programs with the City of Poquoson.

Discussion:
This grant is awarded to the City of Hampton as the fiduciary agent for joint preparedness programs with the City of Poquoson. Funding will go towards training and education for volunteers and staff who support the Citizen Corps programs in each city. Currently there are no other funding sources for this support of the Office of Emergency Management other than additional City funds.

Impact:
The City has been awarded $45,000.00 in funding from the 2021 State Homeland Security Program ("SHSP") Grant with no local match required. This grant allows the Office of Emergency Management to continue to provide training and support for emergency preparedness programs to better prepare the City for future threats.
