Resolution to Amend the Fiscal Year 2024 Council Approved Budget to Accept and Appropriate the 2023 and 2024 Virginia Tourism Grant Awarded to the Hampton Jazz Festival
Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
The Virginia Tourism Corporation Special Events & Festival Sponsorship Program purpose is to assist with marketing and production of established Virginia special events and festivals. Preference is given to special events and festivals that have a significant and positive economic impact on the Virginia local community with significant local/regional cash or in-kind match. Hampton Coliseum has applied and received an award of $10,000 for the 2023 Hampton Jazz Festival and has been awarded $5,840 for the 2024 Hampton Jazz & Musical Festival.
Discussion:
The Hampton Jazz Festival has attracted more thousands of visitors to our city on the last full weekend of June, since 1968. The Special Events & Festival grant has made it possible to create a show video for future event advertising and increase advertising presence in major east coast cities from New York to South Carolina.
Impact:
The Special Events & Festival grant supports the City Council's Strategic Initiatives for Placemaking and Economic Impact.

Amend the Fiscal Year 2024 Council approved Budget to accept and appropriate the Virginia Tourism Corporation Virginia Special Event & Festival Program Grant award in the amount of $15,840 and any supplemental funding awarded by the Virginia Tourism Corporation.

WHEREAS, the Hampton Coliseum has been awarded the Special Events & Festival Program Grant in the amount of $10,000 for the 2023 Hampton Jazz Festival and in the amount of $5,840 for the 2024 Hampton Jazz & Music Festival from the Virginia Tourism Corporation;
WHEREAS, the grant does not require a local match; and
WHEREAS, the grant awards cover the period of June 23, 2023 - June 30, 2024.
