Purpose
Background Statement:
This proposal is a Use Permit request to open a commercial day care within the confines of an existing religious facility, located at the northwest corner of Shell Road and Quincy Street. The day care will initially care for 18 children, aged 2 ½ to 5 years, in two classrooms with two (2) adult staff members. Together with the day care office and bathrooms, the total site area will comprise approximately 800 square feet. There is the potential to expand to additional rooms within the church in the future, as permitted by the Building Official or their designee. The students of the day care will utilize an outdoor, fenced in playground on the rear of the parcel. Children will be dropped off and picked up using one of the site’s parking facilities, consisting of 29 parking spaces and providing access to Shell Road and Quincy Street. The Hampton Community Plan (2006, as amended) recommends low-density residential for this site.
