Resolution to Amend the Fiscal Year 2024 Council Approved Budget to Accept and Appropriate the Sentara Cares Foundation Grant Funds from Sentara Healthcare/Optima Health/Virginia Premier (Sentara).

Purpose

PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:

The awarded funds will be used exclusively to pay for the Division of Fire & Rescue Mobile Integrated Healthcare Program.  This program will increase access to healthcare services through a community based paramedicine approach.  The goal of the program is to decrease inappropriate utilization of emergency departments and increase compliance and usage of primary care services at appropriate levels of care for low acuity patients.  The funding will cover response vehicle for the paramedics to conduct home visits, medical equipment to be placed in each vehicle, vehicle deployment costs, communication equipment and required office equipment that the program is unable to attain through normal funding streams.

The Sentara Cares grant requires no local match, funds are required to be expended, and final report is due by 15 July 2024.

Discussion:

The allocation of funds will help support the needs of the Hampton Division of Fire & Rescue.

Impact:

The allocation is for $327,700 and there is no match required.  The funds will be appropriated to the Grant Fund for accounting and reporting purposes.

                     WHEREAS, the Sentara Cares Foundation has allocated to the City of Hampton, Virginia (the "City") the Sentara Cares Foundation Grant in the amount of $327,700 in funding;

                     WHEREAS, the Sentara Cares Foundation Grant allocation requires no local match;

                     WHEREAS, the Sentara Cares Foundation Grant funds, which total $327,700, will be used by the Division of Fire & Rescue to support the needs of the Mobile Integrated Healthcare and Community Paramedicine Program; and
