Title
Resolution Authorizing the Donation of a Fire Boat to the Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Department

Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
Hampton Division of Fire & Rescue has been working with Isle of Wight County Fire & Rescue in regards to the donation of Fire Boat 2 for continued service within the Port of Virginia. Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue has expressed strong interest in accepting the vessel, noting that the county contains more than 79 miles of shoreline, including significant frontage along the James River, but currently lacks a vessel capable of operating in deep water response areas. Fire Boat 2 has proven to be a valuable maritime firefighting and emergency response asset in Hampton Roads, and Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue has trained personnel, including members of the Marine Incident Response Team, who are prepared to operate the vessel and provide response coverage from the James River Bridge to the Ghost Fleet. Transferring the vessel will allow it to remain in active service, strengthen regional mutual aid capabilities, and continue supporting maritime safety in the Port of Virginia as it is recommissioned as Isle of Wight Fire Boat 1.

Discussion:

Hampton Fire & Rescue currently has an older fire boat that is no longer in service due to department having replaced it with a newer model. As this unit has already been replaced, donating it will support close partnership with another local fire and rescue department. This donation is authorized by Virginia Code Section 15.2-953(C).

Impact:

Minor financial impact as this unit has already been replaced and has an estimated value of $ 5,000 - $ 10,000 at auction.

Recommendation:
Rec
Approve the Resolution.
