Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
The State Homeland Security Program ("SHSP") Grant assists state, local, tribal, and territorial efforts to build, sustain, and deliver the capabilities necessary to prevent, prepare for, protect against, and respond to acts of terrorism. The City of Hampton has been awarded, as fiduciary, a 2024 SHSP Grant awarded through the Virginia Department of Emergency Management for the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Regional Collaboration - Peninsula.

Discussion:
This grant is awarded to the City of Hampton as the fiduciary agent for joint preparedness programs with the Cities of Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg and James City County and York County. Funding will go towards supplies, training and education for volunteers and staff who support the CERT program in each locality. Currently there are no other funding sources for this support of the Office of Emergency Management other than additional City funds.

Impact:

The City has been awarded $11,843 in funding from the 2024 State Homeland Security Program (SHSP) Grant with no local match required for a total grant award of $11,843. This grant allows the Office of Emergency Management to continue to provide training and support for emergency preparedness programs to better prepare the City and Peninsula region for future threats.
