Resolution to Accept Contribution of Money from Hampton City Schools in the Amount of $10,000 to further Youth Violence Prevention Efforts in the City of Hampton
Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
Hampton City Schools provides an annual contribution, in the amount of $10,000, to the Youth Violence Prevention Division. The Youth Violence Prevention Division works closely with students from Hampton City Schools, especially with the Summer Youth Employment Program.
Discussion:
Hampton City Schools provided the funds with the sole stipulation that the funds be used by the Youth Violence Prevention Division to motivate and educate young people so that youth violence does not occur. The FY16 contribution is being used to support travel related costs to the Cities United Annual Convening, where one Hampton City School student will be participating on a plenary roundtable discussion with the City's Youth Violence Prevention Program Manager and other youth from across the country. Funds will also be used to support an assessment and other initiatives that address youth violence in the City of Hampton and benefit Hampton City School students.
Impact:
The contribution will be used as follows: Convention and Education ($3,500); Program Implementation and Public Safety Partnerships ($3,000); Community Education and Assessment ($3,000) and supplies ($500).

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Hampton, Virginia accepts the fiscal year 2016 contribution of money in the amount of $10,000 from Hampton City Schools for use by the Youth Violence Prevention Division to further youth violence prevention efforts in the City of Hampton; and further appropriates this contribution to that Division for that purpose.
