Briefing on the proposed Hampton Aquatics Center

Purpose

Background Statement:

The intent of this briefing is to provide information on the proposed Hampton Aquatics Center.  The proposal was prepared by staff with the help of a feasibility study conducted by the Counsilman-Hunsaker consulting firm.

In 2014, City Council decided to further investigate the ability of an aquatics facility to meet both a local need for recreational and training space and generate economic impact in the community by serving as a venue for swimming and diving competitions.

This further in-depth analysis identifies key elements necessary to create an attractive venue for holding local, regional, and potential national level competition; identifies the cost of these key elements and the “delta” between a competition level aquatics facility and a community level pool; and aims to help identify whether the quality of life benefits, direct revenues, and indirect economic impacts to the local economy justify the additional capital outlay for a competition level aquatics facility

This briefing will give an overview of the proposed facility design and projected capital costs, annual revenue and operating costs, and an update on potential community partnerships.
