Discussion of Global Covenant of Mayors
Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
Mayor Tuck has been asked to sign on to the Global Covenant of Mayors and is desirous of soliciting Council Member feedback before making a final decision. To help Council members in their analysis, staff will make a brief presentation on what the Global Covenant requires of participating localities, and potential pros and cons associated with joining the covenant.
Thousands of localities globally have joined the Global Covenant of Mayors, but only three localities in Virginia. The three Virginia cities that have joined the Covenant have their climate plans online. These plans are not the end goal of the Covenant but were informed by the goals and milestones of the Covenant.
