Title
Resolution of the City of Hampton Authorizing the Dissolution of the Hampton Parking Authority

Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION/IMPACT:
On March 23, 1988, the Council organized a parking authority to be known as the “Hampton Parking Authority” under the provisions of the Newport News and Hampton Parking Authority Act as set forth in Chapter 200 of the Acts of Assembly of 1968, as amended by Chapter 57 of the Acts of Assembly of 1983 and further amended by Chapter 596 of the Acts of Assembly of 1984.

One of the main purposes of the Hampton Parking Authority was to assist the City with the administration of municipal parking facilities open to the public for a fee. The City decided several years ago to make all municipal parking facilities available to the public for free with the exception of the contractual agreement with the owners of the Harbour Center Building parking garage.

Accordingly, the need for the Hampton Parking Authority no longer exists and Council would like to dissolve the Authority at this time. Any future Council may revisit the issue of establishing a parking authority in the event it is deemed necessary.

Recommendation:
Rec
Approve the Resolution.
