Resolution to Rescind Resolution 02-2575 that established the Hampton Tourism Advisory Committee
Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
The committee was originally established on October 23, 2002 to act in an advisory capacity to the Hampton Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) management and to consult with the Director of the department on matters pertaining to advertising, target marketing and long range visioning for tourism in the City of Hampton. The committee has been inactive since 2012. The services the committee provided to the Hampton CVB are now internally handled by staff and an informal advisory group, the Hampton Strategic Tourism Alliance (HSTA). The HTSA meets at a minimum three times per year. As the HTSA is not a Council appointed committee, there is no residency requirement which allows the CVB and HTSA to partner with members who are influential in shaping tourism in the City of Hampton, but are not necessarily esidents of Hampton. CVB is thus requesting that the HTAC be abolished.

WHEREAS, on October 23, 2002 the Hampton City Council passed Resolution 02-2575 that established the Hampton Tourism Advisory Committee (HTAC);
WHEREAS, the functions performed by the HTAC are now performed by the Hampton Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Hampton Strategic Tourism Alliance;
WHEREAS, the HTAC has been inactive since 2012; and
WHEREAS, the HTAC is accordingly no longer needed.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Hampton, Virginia as follows:
1. Resolution 02-2575 which was originally passed on October 23, 2002 is rescinded and the HTAC is abolished.
