Title
Briefing on Proposed Zoning Ordinance Amendments for Accessory Dwelling Units
Purpose
Background Statement:
The purpose of this briefing is to provide an update on the proposed zoning ordinance amendments for Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs). Staff will share the progress to date, highlight the draft language, and discuss recommended changes by the Planning Commission. This is also an opportunity to review draft ordinance changes that would define and permit ADUs in Hampton, ensuring they align with community priorities and city goals.
Phase One of the ADU engagement process included broad public outreach, including a community survey and a steering group representing diverse perspectives. Key themes include strong interest in ADUs for family use, housing affordability, and homeowner flexibility. Additional goals emphasize working within the parameters of the City’s existing development standards and maintaining consistency with surrounding localities. We are seeking City Council and public feedback to help refine these recommendations and guide the next steps toward an informed draft zoning ordinance language.
