Resolution Renaming Armistead Pointe Parkway to Boo Williams Way
Purpose
Discussion:
On August 27, 2022, at the Boo Williams 40th Anniversary Sneaker Ball Gala, the Hampton City Council announced their intent to rename Armistead Pointe Parkway to "Boo Williams Way" in honor of Marcellus S. "Boo" WIlliams, Jr. Approval of this resolution will formally effectuate this change.

WHEREAS, Armistead Pointe Parkway is the gateway to the Boo Williams Sportsplex, a nationally and internationally known multi-use sports facility in Hampton, Virginia, opened by Marcellus S. "Boo" Williams, Jr. in 2008;
WHEREAS, Marcellus S. "Boo" Williams, Jr., a Hampton native, who has brought the City of Hampton into the spotlight as a destination for sports tourism and has contributed to the growth in character and sportsmanship of thousands of young people from all over the United States of America; and
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Hampton, Virginia that Armistead Pointe Parkway is hereby renamed "Boo WIlliams Way" effective immediately.
The Clerk of the Council is hereby directed to forward a certified copy of this resolution to the Clerk of the Circuit Court pursuant to Virginia Code section 15.2-2019.
