Resolution Approving Salary Increases for City Manager and City Clerk Consistent with Increases Authorized for other City Employees

 

Purpose

PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:

To approve salary increases for City Manager and City Clerk in accordance with their respective employment agreements.

Approval of the resolution authorizing salary increases

 

 

Body

                     WHEREAS, pursuant to section 3.07 and 4.01 of the Hampton City Charter, the City Clerk and City Manager, respectively, are directly appointed by the City Council; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the City Council previously entered into employment agreements with Mary B. Bunting (the "City Manager") and Katherine Glass (the "City Clerk"); and

 

                     WHEREAS, in accordance with their respective employment agreements, City Council completed annual performance evaluations for the City Manager and the City Clerk on September 11, 2024, and on June 12, 2024, during which time Council considered appropriate salary adjustments for the City Manager and City Clerk, respectively.

 

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Hampton, Virginia as follows:

 

                     1.                     The City Manager shall receive the same salary increase that Council previously approved for other City employees based on tenure with the City, effective July 1, 2024.

 

                     2.                     The City Clerk shall receive a 13% salary increase, effective July 1, 2024.

 

                     3.                     The retroactive portion of the salary increases described above shall be paid in a lump sum.

 

                     4.                     This Resolution is intended solely to approve salary increases in accordance with the terms of the existing employment agreements for the City Manager and the City Clerk, respectively.  This Resolution does not otherwise modify the terms of those existing agreements which remain valid and in effect as previously approved and amended.
