Resolution to Accept and Appropriate Grant Funds Awarded to Hampton Division of Fire & Rescue (HDFR) by the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services-Rescue Squad Assistance Fund (RSAF) and Matching Funds from HDFR’s Budget
Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
Hampton Division of Fire & Rescue (HDFR) is replacing the older portable suction units on all (16) of the medic units. The Virginia Rescue Squad Assistance Fund states that the purpose of the Rescue Squad Assistance Fund (RSAF) is to provide "the requisite training for emergency medical service personnel and purchasing equipment needed by such rescue squads and organizations."
Discussion:
The benefit to the community will be that HDFR will have newer, more reliable equipment on their medic units.
Impact:
The impact of approving and appropriating the Rescue Squad Assistance Fund Grant is that the citizens of Hampton, its visitors and the surrounding jurisdictions who are in mutual aid contracts with us will be provided with better and more reliable medical equipment such as the portable suction units. The request relates to the City Council’s policy initiatives in providing extraordinary Public Safety for its citizens, its visitors and those of other nearby jurisdictions.

WHEREAS, the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services-Rescue Squad Assistance Fund (RSAF) has awarded Hampton Division of Fire & Rescue (HDFR) a 50/50 match grant in the amount of $6,676.96;
WHEREAS, the match of $6,676.96 will come from HDFR’s operating budget;
WHEREAS, the grant award covers the period from 7/1/2016 to 6/30/2017; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the grant award is to purchase sixteen (16) Laerdal portable suction units.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Hampton, Virginia accepts and appropriates the RSAF grant in the amount of $6,676.96, and any supplemental funding, and approves the matching funds from HDFR’s fiscal budget in the am...
