Title
Briefing on Hampton's Poverty Landscape: Opportunities and Next Steps
Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
The Department of Economic Empowerment is a newly created City Department tasked with addressing barriers to economic mobility. Conceptualized from the 2024 Poverty Study, the informational presentation highlights the poverty study, best practices to combat poverty, and introduces Hampton’s Stone Soup Initiative - a collaborative community-centric initiative focused on promoting economic mobility.
Discussion:
As the Department of Economic Mobility is a new city department, it is beneficial to introduce it to the community and provide an overview of its mission, goals, and impact on the city. This is especially important to the launch of Hampton’s Stone Soup Initiative and the strategic implementation of identified best practices. A key component contributing to the success of the Hampton Stone Soup lies within the collaborative engagement and action of community participants.
Impact:
This presentation supports the Council’s strategic priority of Economic Empowerment and Family Resilience.
Recommendation:
Rec
This is an informational briefing for the City Council and no action is being requested from Council at this time. The Department is appreciative of Council's support of the ongoing initiatives and efforts to build and maintain strong connections with community partners and members, particularly those in need of assistance.
