Consideration of Appointments to the Grievance Board
Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
There are currently two vacancies on the Grievance Board. Additionally, on June 9, 2021, Council appointed Philip Siff to the Grievance Board however, since he is currently serving as an alternate to the Board of Zoning Appeals, pursuant to Virginia Code 15.2-2308, he is prohibited from holding any other public office with a very few exceptions.
Council is being asked to appoint three individuals to first terms which will expire on July 31, 2025.
There are four individuals in the Board Bank who have expressed a desire to serve on this board. Those applications are being provided to Council.
While policy indicates the Board should have ten members, this is to ensure there are sufficient members to convene each grievance panel. Since the applicants from the Board Bank interested in this board are few in number, Council may feel free to take their time in filling the vacancies to get to the desired ten members.
