Title
Resolution to Accept and Appropriate Grant Funds Awarded to the City of Hampton's Fire and Rescue Division by the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services - FY16 Rescue Squad Assistance Fund (RSAF) and Matching Funds from the Fire and Rescue Division's FY17 Operating Budget

PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
The Fire and Rescue Division is replacing the old LifePak 500s which can no longer be applied to maintenance contracts. They are no longer being manufactored and subsequently there are no parts available for repair. The Fire and Rescue Division has 15 Basic Life Support (TraBLS) engines that still use the LifePak 500s. The Virginia Rescue Squad Assistance Fund states that the purpose of the grant is to provide "the requisite training for emergency medical service personnel and to purchase equipment needed by rescue squads and organizations."

Discussion:
The benefit to the community will be that the Fire and Rescue Division will have more up-to-date and more reliable equipment on their BLS engines.

Impact:
The impact of approving participation in this grant is that the citizens and visitors of Hampton, as well as the surrounding jurisdictions that are in mutual aid contracts with Hampton, will be provided with better and more reliable medical equipment such as the LifePak 1000 AEDs.

Recommendation:
Rec
Approve.
