Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a R2 research university. Since 2022, the university’s enrollment has increased 46% to over 4,600 students in undergraduate and graduate programs. As a leading Historically Black College and University (HBCU), Hampton University is a significant contributor to the City of Hampton’s and Commonwealth of Virginia’s economic vitality through its students, faculty, and staff; research activity; community, cultural, and entertainment events; Division 1 athletic programs; and much more. The purpose of the presentation is to update City Council on Hampton University’s economic impact.
