Resolution Approving the City of Hampton, Virginia's Participation in and Appropriation of the 2017 State Homeland Security Program Grant through the Virginia Department of Emergency Management for Shelter Planning, Training & Exercise
Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
The City of Hampton (the "City") has been awarded a 2017 State Homeland Security Program Grant ("SHSP" grant). Grant funding will go towards supporting further development of the City's shelter program should evacuation be required due to a disaster.
Discussion:
The grant award is for $35,000.00 with no local match required. The City is the fiduciary agent for these funds. This grant will allow the City's Office of Emergency Management ("OEM") to purchase supplies to support the City's shelters as well as fund the planning, training and exercising of City staff and volunteers.
Impact:
This grant will allow the OEM to continue to support, sustain and expand the City's capability to provide shelter during emergencies. Proactive planning will better prepare the City to respond and recover from a natural disaster.

WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Emergency Management has awarded a 2017 State Homeland Security Grant to the City of Hampton;
WHEREAS, the grant award is in the amount of $35,000.00, with no local match required, for a total grant amount of $35,000.00; and
WHEREAS, the grant award covers the period September 1, 2017 through March 31, 2019.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Hampton, Virginia accepts and appropriates the 2017 State Homeland Security Grant funds in the amount of $35,000.00, with no local match required and any related supplemental funding by the Virginia Department of Emergency Management in accordance with the grant agreement;
