Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
This is a resolution honoring Charlie W. Hill's work for the City of Hampton. He is being honored with a Distinguished Citizens Medal.

Body

WHEREAS, Charlie Hill earned a Master of Business Administration from Hampton University and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Virginia State College;

WHEREAS, he is the co-founder and President of the Hampton Roads Prostate Health Forum, is a founding board member of the Community Free Clinic of Newport News, Virginia, and has funded an endowment for the Hill Leadership Institute at Virginia State University;

WHEREAS, he served two three-year terms as a Trustee of the Virginia Health Care Foundation, a State-wide public-private organization that funds free clinics and federally qualified health centers around the State;

WHEREAS, he was a member of the MMHI delegation to the White House Dialogue on Men’s Health which evolved from President Barack Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper Task Force;

WHEREAS, he has been an active board member on local, regional, state and international civic and business groups including: the Planning Council, the Downtown Norfolk Council, the Virginia Air and Space Museum, the Virginia Stage Company, the Crispus Attucks Cultural Center (CACC), the Corporate Advisory Board of Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia, the INROADS Mid-Atlantic Regional Board of Directors, and the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Advisory Council of Hampton Roads, Virginia;

WHEREAS, he is a Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities Humanitarian Award Honoree and was awarded the Honorary Associate Degree of Humane Letters from Thomas Nelson Community College;

WHEREAS, he and his wife, Golden Bethune-Hill, were selected Citizens of the Year by the Daily Press;
