Title
Resolution Renaming a Portion of Middle Road to Walter R. Dean Way
Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
The City of Hampton (the “City”) is considering renaming a portion of Middle Road starting at Semple Farm Road and running to Commander Shepard Boulevard to “Walter R. Dean Way”, as illustrated on that certain exhibit attached to this Resolution entitled, “Exhibit Denoting the Proposed Renaming of a Portion of Middle Road to "Walter R. Dean Way” (the “Exhibit”). Rev. Dr. Walter R. Dean (“Rev. Dr. Dean”) became the pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church (the “Church”) in 1972 and served the Church for forty-eight (48) years. The Church has been located on Semple Farm Road since 1925. Under Rev. Dr. Dean’s leadership in 1999, the Church moved from its old structure to the new structure located at 171 Semple Farm Road which is adjacent to Middle Road. Before there was a community of Baker Farm or Middle Road, there was an Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Discussion:
See Purpose/Background above.
Impact:
No properties would be impacted by renaming the aforesaid portion of Middle Road, because no parcels are fronting that portion of Middle Road and no property addresses will need to be changed. The Church will reimburse the City for the costs associated with the fabrication and installation of the new signs.
Recommendation:
Rec
Approval of the resolution.
