Resolution Authorizing the Acceptance of a Gift of Tangible Personal Property Valued Over $5,000 from the Downtown Hampton Development Partnership Pursuant to City Code §2-134

Purpose

PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:

The Downtown Hampton Development Partnership (DHDP) has generously offered to purchase a new canopy for Mill Point Park and new lights for the Downtown Waterfront.   The canopy will be installed by a vendor engaged by DHDP in the near future.   The lights were installed by the City's Parks, Recreation, and Leisure Services Department earlier this holiday season.  The value of the donated personal property is estimated to be over $5,000.

Discussion:

DHDP was established in 1996 to manage the Downtown Business Improvement District (BID).  DHDP is committed to enhancing the physical beauty, commercial vitality and distinguished character of Downtown Hampton.  Through innovative arts initiatives, special events and cooperative marketing programs, DHDP plays a vital role in the viability of Downtown Hampton.  The donation of these amenities help further this goal.

Impact:

These amenities will enhance the user experience of Mill Point Park and of the Downtown Hampton Waterfront.

WHEREAS, the Downtown Hampton Development Partnership has generously agreed to purchase and facilitate installation of a new canopy at Mill Point Park as well as new lights for the Downtown Waterfront, the combined  value of which will exceed $5,000; and

WHEREAS, acceptance of donations of tangible personal property valued at $5,000 or more requires the approval of the Hampton City Council pursuant to Hampton City Code §2-134.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Hampton, Virginia as follows:

                     1.                     That the donation from Downtown Hampton Development Partnership of a new canopy for Mill Point Park and new lights for the Downtown Hampton Water...
