Ordinance to Amend and Reenact the City Code of the City of Hampton, Virginia by Amending Chapter 32.1, Article II, Entitled Collections by the City By Amending Sec. 32.1-41 Pertaining to the Solid Waste Rate to be Applied to Bills Issued On and After July 1, 2017
Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
Ordinance to Increase the Solid Waste User Fee for Fiscal Year Beginning July 1, 2017 and Ending June 30, 2018 Pursuant to Virginia Code Section 15.2-928(A).
Discussion:
The City of Hampton is authorized pursuant to Code of Virginia Sec. 15.2-928(A) to provide and operate solid waste management facilities and appurtenances for the collection, management, recycling and disposal of solid waste, recyclable materials, and other refuse for the benefit of the residents and businesses of the locality electing to use City services. That section further provides that the CIty may charge and collect compensation for such services. The proposed increase to the Solid Waste User Fee will enable the City's Solid Waste Enterprise Fund to continue to operate efficiently, repair and replace aging equipment, and provide refuse, recycling, and bulk collections to the citizens of Hampton.
Impact:
The net increase is approximately $740,000 annually.
