Purpose

PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:

The briefing will provide an update on the progress of the poverty study.  The study will be utilized to inform the work plan for the Council's strategic priority of Family Resilience and Economic Empowerment.  The briefing will cover the deliverables and current timeline for completion of the study. It will also address some broad trends identified in the initial data review for the study.

 

Discussion:

 

Family Resilience and Economic Empowerment is the City Council's strategic priority focused on "Addressing poverty in ways that support families and individuals".  The goal is to provide every resident in the City of Hampton with an opportunity to reach their full potential and to move individuals and families from dependence to empowerment.  The poverty study is one of the fundamental pieces of this effort. When complete, the study will identify trends, challenges and opportunities related to poverty.  It will also provide an implementation plan framework consisting of modern best practices and data-driven solutions with measurable and achievable immediate and multi-year goals.
