Briefing on Cannabis Legislation
Purpose
Background Statement:
The purpose of this briefing is to provide Council with an overview of the specific uses and license types that will be authorized by the recently enacted state legislation regarding cannabis. Information will be provided on the state licensing process and the relationship with the local permitting process. The presentation will provide guidance on the creation of new land use categories, identification of specific zoning districts in which each use may be permitted, and establishing the formal permit process at the local level. Additional recommendations for amending City ordinances to facilitate the administration, implementation and enforcement of this legislation will be addressed by staff during this briefing.
This briefing is being introduced in advance of a zoning ordinance amendment (ZOA) being drafted. Consideration of any proposed ordinance or code amendments by City Council will occur at a future date.
