Safer Communities Application and Appropriation

Purpose

PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:

This report provides City Council with an overview of Hampton’s proposed $3,115,713 Safer Communities Program investment strategy. The proposal establishes a coordinated violence-prevention and community-safety framework across six strategic areas: prevention and youth opportunities; safe neighborhoods and stabilization; violence interruption and community safety; healing and recovery; community partnerships and capacity building; and strategy, innovation, and sustainability. Collectively, these investments are designed to address the root causes of violence, expand youth employment and family-support opportunities, strengthen neighborhoods, provide timely intervention and healing services, build the capacity of community partners, and improve long-term accountability through data, evaluation, and performance measurement.
