2019 Commemorative Commission Presentation

Purpose

PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:

Hampton 2019 Commemorative Commission was established by Hampton City Council in 2014 to create and implement a plan to commemorate the 1619 landing of Africans at Point Comfort. Commissioners have worked under the leadership of Co-Chairs Dr. Colita Fairfax and Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Claude Vann, meeting monthly and serving in committees to plan details of the commemoration. They are supported by city staff including ACM Steve Bond, CVB Director Mary Fugere, and Hampton History Museum Director Luci Cochran.
