Purpose

PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:

Hampton's Sesquicentennial Committee was created by Resolution 08-0473 at its meeting held  November 19, 2008.  The committee was formed at the request of the Virginia Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War Commission (established during the 2006 Session of the Virginia General Assembly) to assist in planning for a four-year statewide commemoration period and also to highlight the City of Hampton's Civil War history.  The commemoration period was from 2011 through 2015.  Resolution 08-0473 stated that the citizens appointed to serve on the committee would serve in terms expiring at the end of the commemoration period.
