Consideration of Appointments to the Virginia Air & Space Science Center Board of Directors
Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
The City of Hampton has twelve (12) seats on this board. Terms are four (4) years and appointees are eligible to serve three full terms. There are nine (9) appointees whose terms expire in 2026, and one vacancy Jeffery O. Smith, Ed.D., Executive Director and CEO of the Virginia Air & Space Science Center (VASSC) has communicated that, at the meeting held on July 22, 2025, the Board unanimously recommended the following individuals for reappointment.
Ross Mugler (his first term expires January 31, 2026) - eligible for reappointment to a second term until January 31, 2030
Ann Bane (her first partial term expires January 31, 2026) - eligible for reappointment to a second term until January 31, 2030
Melvin Ferebee, Jr. (his first term expires February 28, 2026) - eligible for reappointment to a second term until February 28, 2030
Michael Hamar (his first term expires February 28, 2026) - eligible for reappointment to a second term until February 28, 2030
Gaylene Kanoyton (her first term expires February 28, 2026) - eligible for reappointment to a second term until February 28, 2030
Stephen Miller (his first term expires February 28, 2026) - eligible for reappointment to a second term until February 28, 2030
Dr. Chandra Oaks-Garcia (current term expires February 28, 2026) - eligible for reappointment to a second term until February 28, 2030
Brian DeProfio (current term expires June 30, 2026) - eligible for reappointment to a third term until June 30, 2030
John Ishon (current term expires February 28, 2026) - eligible for reappointment to a second term until February 28, 2030
William Brown resigned, creating a vacancy. Council is being asked to appoint an individual to serve a first term until December 31, 2029.
