Resolution Adopting a Policy for Citizen-Initiated Street Name Changes

 

 

Purpose

PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:

From time to time, citizens or organizations approach Council and/or staff with requests for street name changes. Although a current policy exists, this has always been an internal administrative policy. For greater transparency, and to ensure that the public understands the Council support of the policy, we will do a briefing in afternoon session and ask Council to affirm the policy on the evening agenda.

Approve resolution.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the City Council desires to adopt a policy for citizen-initiated street name changes;

 

WHEREAS, the purpose of this policy is to identify the specific responsibilities for the citizen making the request for a street name change;

 

WHEREAS, the administration of the policy will be coordinated by the Department of Public Works and their responsibilities are outlined in the policy; and

 

WHEREAS, the policy is set forth in Exhibit A attached to this Resolution.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Hampton, Virginia adopts the “Policy for Citizen-Initiated Street Name Changes” dated January 10, 2018.
