Resolution Requesting the Renaming of East Tyler Street from Settlers Landing Road to East Queen Street, and East Queen Street from East Tyler Street to the Hampton River, to "William R. Harvey Way"
Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
Hampton University has requested that the City rename both East Tyler Street from Settlers Landing Road to East Queen Street, and East Queen Street from East Tyler Street to the Hampton River, to Williams R. Harvey Way.
Discussion:
In the 2017-2018 academic year, Hampton University will celebrate its 150th Anniversary and 40 years of service from Dr. William R. Harvey as its president. The university requests this street name change to honor Dr. Harvey.
Impact:
Hampton University is the only property owner affected by this name change. No other impacts are anticipated.

WHEREAS, Hampton University has requested that, effective March 30, 2018, the City rename both East Tyler Street from Settlers Landing Road to East Queen Street, and East Queen Street from East Tyler Street to the Hampton River, to "William R. Harvey Way";
WHEREAS, Hampton University is the only property owner affected by the proposed name change;
WHEREAS, Hampton University made this request to city staff on October 31, 2017, and city staff concurs with this request.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HAMPTON, VIRGINIA:
1. That East Tyler Street from Settlers Landing Road to East Queen Street and East Queen Street from East Tyler Street to the Hampton River, shall be renamed "William R. Harvey Way", effective March 30, 2018; and
2. That the City Manager, or her authorized designee, and Clerk of Council are authorized to execute and attest all necessary documents to effectuate this name change.
