Title
Resolution Approving the City of Hampton, Virginia's Participation in and Appropriation of the 2017 Supplemental Local Emergency Management Performance Grant Program through the Virginia Department of Emergency Management

Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
This grant is awarded annually to the City of Hampton to support the City of Hampton's Emergency Management program.

Discussion:

The City of Hampton has been awarded a 2017 Supplemental Local Emergency Management Performance Grant (LEMPG) to support the City of Hampton's Emergency Management program. This grant is for $30,000.00 with a required local in-kind match of $30,000.00 for a total of $60,000.00. A portion of the funds will be used to improve shelter operations through the purchase of supplies and installation of exterior electrical outlets to support the climate control functions within the medical supply trailer at Hampton's two primary emergency shelters for residents with disabilities and access/functional needs. Funds will also be used to expand Hampton's emergency notification capabilities to include cellular phone listings for residents. In addition, a portion of the grant will be used to improve operational readiness by replacing computers at the Hampton Emergency Operations Center that are no longer under warranty and cannot be supported. Currently there are not other funding sources for this support of the Office of Emergency Management other than additional city funds.

Impact:

This grant allows the Office of Emergency Management to maintain operational readiness at city shelters and the Emergency Operations Center and to expand emergency notification capabilities to local residents. These activities will better prepare the city for future threats and emergencies.
