PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
Resolution recognizing Dois I. Rosser Jr. for his dedicated service to the City of Hampton and the world

Council is being asked to approve the resolution in recognition of Dois I. Rosser Jr. for his dedicated service to the the City of Hampton and the world.

Body
WHEREAS, Hampton citizen, Dois I. Rosser Jr., is being recognized for his dedicated service to the City of Hampton, Virginia, and the world;

WHEREAS, Mr. Rosser is a longtime Hampton Roads area businessman, founder and Chairman Emeritus of International Cooperating Ministries (ICM), and the former Chairman of the POMOCO Auto Group;

WHEREAS, for many years, Mr. Rosser devoted much of his time, energy and finances to ICM, a Hampton-based charity which helped build approximately 7,000 churches in 86 countries including Russia, India, China and Vietnam;

WHEREAS, in addition to building churches, ICM has been instrumental in spreading the Christian message through a worldwide radio and television program ;

WHEREAS, over the years, Mr. Rosser and the POMOCO Auto Group supported many organizations in our region including the Hampton Arts Foundation, the Peninsula Food Bank, the Virginia Air and Space Center, An Achievable Dream, and other City events, such as Buckroe Beach Family Movie Night and the Coliseum Road Race ;

WHEREAS, POMOCO’s motto “Peace of Mind, Of Course” is well-known in the community;

WHEREAS, Mr. Rosser actively served on numerous boards, including the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization, Leighton Ford Ministries, Youth Focus, Prison Fellowship, and the Overseas Council for Theological Education and Missions;

WHEREAS, he also served on the Board of Trustees of Hampton University and the United Way of the Virginia Peninsula;

WHEREAS, in 1986, Mr. Rosser was named “Unsung Virginian” in acknowledgment of his business, civic and religious achievements;
